Approach

LMI-Brookings is convening a wide range of stakeholders to design and establish an independent public-private AHIC that will be a champion for adoption and harmonization of health IT that will result in higher-quality, more-efficient health care. AHIC will transition to the Successor organization by December 2008.

LMI-Brookings will seek consensus through a variety of outreach activities, including three public meetings to be held in Washington, DC. The public meetings will also be available via webcast by visiting this site. In convening the AHIC Successor, LMI and Brookings are committed to the following principles:

  • The entity should exist for the purpose of individual/consumer benefit.
  • The entity should establish and enhance trust among stakeholders.
  • The entity should have broad participation across health-care industry stakeholders.
  • The governing bodies of the entity should have necessary authority to make decisions, but only the authority that is necessary to do this.
  • The entity should be feasible to establish and operate, and sustainable into the future.
  • The entity should be adaptable over time and across future circumstances.

As part of the convening process, LMI-Brookings will facilitate the work of four Planning Groups that will address issues of governance, membership structure, sustainability, and transition. To learn more about these Planning Groups, click here.
